About Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra :

The Centre for Social Studies (CES) was founded in 1978 at the School of Economics of the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe. CES is an interdisciplinary scientific institution devoted to research in the social sciences and humanities: 129 researchers, 79 post-doctoral researchers and 54 junior researchers, organized into 11 thematic research groups.

Located in the historic site of the University of Coimbra, CES has seen, over the recent years, its scientific activity expand to a significant degree. This can be noted in its increased number of researchers, in its academic progression, in the multiplication of research projects involving CES researchers, in the widening of international cooperation networks, in activities carried out in cooperation with the outside sphere and in the vitality of its main instruments for scientific dissemination, as in the case of publications or scientific dissemination activities.

Their role in Entitle:

CES will be organizing in Coimbra the final conference of Entitle where the results of the Project will be presented. CES faculty has expertise on environmental history and theories of the commons, colonialism, and North-South relations. These are some of the topics taught by CES faculty at the Entitle Summer Schools. As part of Entitle, CEC´s Marie Curie fellows study fascism and the environment in Francoist Spain, and environmental violence in Brazil.
