Planning and Spatial Development: Theories and Practices

Planning and Spatial Development: Theories and Practices

Module Leaders: Costis Hadjimichalis, Professor

The purpose of this course is twofold. First, to summarize the main theories and approaches to spatial development planning, focusing on relations between power, social actors and space-time and second, to focus these approaches in Europe and Greece. Programming is not a neutral, technocratic process through which supposedly optimized options emerge. Relevant questions include: how a programming problem for spatial development is appearing, by whom and through which procedure it is approached etc.

The differentiated "construction / approach" to the above questions of conflicting interests, large and small powers and citizens, establish the controversial and highly political (in the broad sense) field of planning for spatial development of space.
