Seth Schindler

Seth Schindler is an urban geographer whose research focuses on the diversity of ways in which people "connect" to urban metabolisms, particularly in cities in the global South that are undergoing rapid transformation. He is a Lecturer of Human Geography at the University of Sheffield, and he collaborates with colleagues at ICTA-UAB. His research seeks to account for the political economic and material transformation of metabolisms in cities in the global South. His recent research on waste in a satellite city outside of Delhi appeared in Geoforum, and demonstrated that politics surrounding waste management animate sociality and serve as the basis for collective action and contestation.

He is currently developing methods to research metabolic conflicts in Southern cities by combining quantitative strengths of ecological economics and qualitative research at the micro-scale that characterizes urban geography. His research has appeared in journals such as the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Urban Studies and Antipode.
